TED Talk Tuesday #55: A hilarious celebration of lifelong female friendship

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was selected by CN&CO admin goddess Penny Hickinbotham. Here’s why she chose it:

Last night while I was sitting at the CN&CO ConFab session I realised that the person sitting next to me, Sue Andrews, and I have been friends since we were little girls. We’ve landed ourselves in trouble quite a few times, and saved each other from getting into trouble even more times. It made me think of long-term friendships – and since today is my turn for TED Talk Tuesday, I thought I’d dedicate this one to my longest-standing friend. (Note, I did not say “oldest”.)

I came across this talk by Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin about their friendship over the years, and the friendship between their characters in the delightful comedy Grace & Frankie. A couple of coincidences … 1. Jane Fonda did the last TED Talk I posted, and 2. Grace and Frankie are the names of Simon and Josie Dougall’s two little girls. Frankie, in fact, turned two weeks old yesterday. What a blessing.

I hope you enjoy the banter between these two amazing women in this week’s TED Talk Tuesday – especially you, Sue…
