Satrix turns 20 in 2020

You can #ownthemarket with Satrix – read how here.

At CN&CO we love investing and better yet we love investment platforms that make investing EASY. Our Carel Nolte heads up the brand team at EasyEquities, one of our founding partners and a revolutionary platform that is democratising access to share ownership.

Another leading financial services brand that the EasyEquities team work closely with, and who share a similar ideology, is Satrix. They are a pioneer in the South African index-tracking landscape. They provide you with a versatile toolset to access a broad range of local and global indices. The two companies were bought closer together when the well-established financial services company, Sanlam Investments bought a 30% stake (R100 million) in EasyEquities in 2017.

Satrix were the first company to list ETFs on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). This year they celebrate their 20th birthday and manage R100 billion in index-tracking assets across institutional and retail mandates.

Follow this link for a detailed breakdown of Satrix’s journey over the last 20 years.

Speaking of ETF’s, you can invest in Satrix ETFs in your Tax Free Savings Account (TFSA). You have until end of February to make use of your annual R33 000 opportunity to invest in a Tax Free Savings account. Many people don’t have R33 000 to invest but whatever the amount you have, it’s definitely one of the first investments anyone in SA should make.

Outside of providing access to ETF and financial education, the Satrix team are also passionate about investing in the community. A stellar example of this passion was Satrix’s support for the iMadiba micro museums. iMadiba is the brainchild of artist Erhardt Thiel, who (so far) has created 18 sculptural installations fashioned on Nelson Mandela’s prison cell at Robben Island. When these two entities came together, they created something magical.

Satrix, was the first corporate sponsor, sponsoring the construction of three iMadiba micro museums, one at the Iziko South African Museum in Cape Town, one at the Nelson Mandela Museum in Qunu, and one at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange.

The iMadiba micro museums around South Africa all have a special stories and meaning. Another site that is close to the CN&CO family is the iMadiba at St Stithians College, were it is used for many conversations – it was donated by the CN&CO shareholders, two Saints alumni Thabs Royds, Carel Nolte, former CN&CO team mate Allan Bader (now at Chubb who support the Jozi Film Festival) and Ntombi Langa-Royds – our mate and the deputy chair of council at St Stithians.
