Western Cape expansion for CIB
Our partner CIB announced today that they have appointed insurance stalwart, James Peters, to lead their Western Cape expansion.
This year, CIB celebrate their 25th Anniversary and have outlined a few exciting developments for their next phase. Their journey began in 1994 on the 2nd of August when they wrote their first policy. Read more about CIB’s 25 year anniversary here.

CIB is delighted to welcome James Peters on board as Regional Manager for the Western Cape. James joins the team on the 1st of October and will be based in Cape Town – a city he has called home for many decades.
James’ insurance career started over two decades ago at Two Oceans Insurance Brokers. Since then he has acquired a broad range of experience in several insurance disciplines, heading up insurance businesses for Hollard and Old Mutual Insurance before his last position as regional manager for the Western Cape at Constantia Insurance Company. James also spent seven years serving on the Insurance Institute of the Western Cape, two of these as president and is a well-known insurance personality.
“One of my main drivers, and a principle that I value most highly, is real relationships and adding true value to people internally with staff and externally with all my business partners,” says Peters. “This is what attracts me to the boutique insurers, where I believe the lack of corporatisation (without losing out on professionalism, of course) allows more flexibility and ability to really practice and enhance this.
“Often at the bigger players you get lost in the numbers and are unable to make a noticeable difference. I believe I can add massive value at CIB and in turn that they can provide excellent support to the intermediary market.”
CIB Executive Head of Sales & Marketing, Jon-Jon Smit says, “James joins us with years of experience and a host of personal relationships, which is what our business is founded on. Under his management I have no doubt that we will see new relationships and partnerships grow in the Western Cape region and across our national footprint.”
CIB MD Wilhelm von La Chevallerie, concurs.
“James has an in-depth knowledge of the Western Cape insurance market and we look forward to the value he will undoubtedly add for us in the region,” he says. “Our business has been operating – and growing – for 25 years and to have someone of James’s calibre at the helm of the Cape market, which is key for us, is an absolute privilege for us.”
CIB writes in excess of R1 Billion in premium per annum and is recognised by many as a strong underwriting option in the South African insurance market. With over 600 brokers serviced by CIB, specialist skills in underwriting and risk assessments, James says: “I am very excited by what the future holds for the Cape Town intermediary market with a company like CIB actively supporting us, locally.”
