#TravelTuesday: June 2019 travel inspiration

Happy #TravelTuesday! If you didn’t know that it is a thing, now you know. #TravelTuesday is a fun international hashtag to celebrate all things travel. People share travel tips and photos of their travels. In that same spirit, I am sharing some travel inspiration with you courtesy of our partner Club Med and the Club Med blog.

Travel Inspo: Where to go for your December sun or snow holiday

It’s time to start planning that December holiday. Around this time of year, just as the temperature really starts to drop, South Africans are feeling too cold or not cold enough. Either you’re too cold and dreaming of warm beaches or you’re still waiting for it to cool down even more and you are dreaming of even chiller snow-covered slopes.

Whatever your chosen type of holiday (sun or snow) Club Med has you covered. There are wonderful resorts in some of the world’s most beautiful places including the Alps, the Asian mountains (for sun or snow holidays), tropical beaches like those in Mauritius and the Caribbean, and cultural gems like Greece and Bali.

In this blog, you can learn why you should visit Portugal, Bali, and the French Alps.

Portugal

Consider Portugal for its friendly people, history, medieval castles, beautiful beaches, and delicious dishes like bacalhau and Cataplana de Marisco. Find out what these are in the blog.

There are also the Caminos de Santiago which will delight anyone looking for a spiritual retreat. The Caminos de Santiago are routes or pilgrimages leading to what is believed to be the burial site of Saint James at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

The French Alps

Need we say more than epic Alpine views, winter sports like skiing and snowboarding, aprés-ski, fondue…? It’s a great mix of exercise and comfort food.

Bali

Besides its many spiritual attractions like amazing temples, consider a holiday in Bali for its water rafting, wild animals, surfing, and even mountain climbing. It is known for many things and there are many more that are waiting to be explored… by you! Stay with Club Med in Bali, explore what it has to offer, and maybe even share a guest blog on our site.

Our Kurt recently wrote about Club Med in this “I Wish” blog. He gives great detail on each resort he has visited, what he loved about each, and what he spent his days doing. It’s a great read with plenty of travel trips and inspo.

Travel Tips: Active holidays and children travel for free

Not everyone’s idea of a good holiday is one where you can chill on the beach or by the pool reading a good book, writing in your journal, or just laying back and marvelling at the beauty around you. For some, a good holiday involves some serious sweating. Our Blake is one such person – his ideal holiday involves some sort of physical activity while exploring the place he is in.

This Club Med blog about active holidays is a great source of information for the active traveller. From water and land-based activities in Mauritius and the Caribbean to winter sports in the Alps, Club Med has you covered. The best news: it’s all inclusive.

For the snow lovers, skiing and snowboarding aren’t all you can do. You can try Nordic Walking, dog sledding, and more.

For the sun chasers, try the tricky-to-master kitesurfing at Club Med La Caravelle in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean or golf at Club Med La Plantation d’Albion in Mauritius.

For families with children under the age of 12, Club Med and Air Mauritius have some great news! Children under the age of 12 stay for free with Club Med at both resorts in Mauritius. I recommend you choose to stay at Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers in Grand Bay because the resort was designed for families with younger children. With Air Mauritius, children under 12 years old fly for free. That’s basically a free holiday for your children under the age of 12 because they fly and stay for free! Read more in this Club Med blog.

In this CN&CO blog I share my thoughts on both Club Med resorts in Mauritius and which you should choose for your next holiday.

For the best Mauritius inspiration, check out the Club Med accounts on Facebook and Twitter. Right now and for a few more days this week, a group of SA media, ambassadors, and our Carel and Gabbi are in Mauritius for the grand reopening of the Club Med La Pointe aux Canonniers resort. There are amazing images and videos being shared on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram using #ClubMedSA

If you like active holidays, you should also consider a Summer Mountain holiday where you can enjoy the Alps in summer. Think: mountain biking, hiking, canyoning, acrobranching, and more. Read more in this Club Med blog.

My spa treatment at Club Med Bintan Island

As you know, our fabulous team visited Club Med Bintan Island for one epic work-holiday trip towards the end of 2018. There are many blogs on our site that you can check out. From Josh enjoying his morning running to Gianluca playing on one of the world’s top golf courses with South African Chef du Village Jono Hegarty, Carel, Kurt, and Allan – there is plenty for you to read about and be inspired by.

I wrote this about our one-day excursion. It was truly wonderful. I have now written a blog for the Club Med blog about my time at the Club Med Bintan Island spa. It was incredible. I just loved the setup of the spa: it is right on the beach so you look out the window of your treatment room and you are looking at the beautiful sea. I also found the whole environment of the spa to be so relaxing!

I know Carel, Colin, and Gianluca also treated themselves to spa treatments when we were there and they also loved the experience.

Of his experience, Gianluca says:

“The spa, like Bintan, is a perfect getaway. It is set amongst the forest with the forest sounds to relax you. The private rooms are quiet and having views of the ocean whilst having your massage is nothing short of pure bliss. 10/10 experience.”

Whichever of these amazing locations you choose, rest-assured that your package price with Club Med includes food, drinks, accommodation, in-resort activities, after-parties, and more. Once you’ve paid for your holiday you just need to pack, travel, and enjoy!
