The Global Goals, aiming to achieve the extraordinary!

On September 25th 2015, 193 world leaders will commit to 17 Global Goals to achieve 3 extraordinary things in the next 15 years. End extreme poverty. Fight inequality and injustice. Fix climate change. The Global Goals for sustainable development could get these things done. In all countries. For all people.

The Global Goals are an initiative aimed at continuing the progress of the Millennium Development Goals which come to a conclusion this year. Several campaigns have been initiated by the Global Goals focusing on spreading the news of the initiative with the idea that if the “goals are famous, they cannot fail”. Based on this idea, several campaigns have been in place leading up to the signing of the goals that will take place in September.

“DizzyGoals” is a video based initiative where football players have literally made themselves dizzy and then tried to score a goal.  Watch star footballer Gareth Bale’s #DizzyGoal below for inspiration to film your own attempt and upload it to social media. Remember to add #DizzyGoals when you do so your attempt can be included with all the other videos.

The other major initiative is the “Tell Everybody” song comprising an all-African cast. Major artists from across the continent have contributed to recording a song that highlights the goals. A competition was held to crowd-source two verses (one in English and one in French) submitted by the public and will be incorporated into the final version of the song.

CN&CO has been assisting with this campaign in promoting the social media content throughout the process. Twitter and Instagram are ideal forms of communication across a continent that is largely dependent on mobile networks for communication as opposed to traditional internet infrastructure.

In partnership with JazzWorx studios, where local artists Theo Kgosinkwe and Nhlanhla Nciza of Mafikizolo – as well as host of pan-African artists and producers – added their sound to the “Tell Everybody” rendition, it has been amazing to see the widespread publicity of the campaign across the continent. With the whole world getting involved, we can hope that by 2030 all goals will have been accomplished for the improvement of mankind.

For more information check out the Global Goals website and engage on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts to get involved. In a country like South Africa we will definitely benefit from the Global Goals, but we all need to play our own part and make it a success as a whole.

So ask yourself, how can you help make the Global Goals possible?
