Every year, runners and walkers alike complete a 7km route around Bryanston, stopping in at six restaurants and pubs enjoying a drink of their choice.

The participants start at Higher Ground restaurant making their way to Mugg & Bean, Café dos Sol, Bryanston Sports club, Mike’s Kitchen, Barrels & Bottles and finishing back at Higher ground.

Sponsors come on board which covers the cost of drinks, therefore allowing the entry fees of each participant to be donated to charity. This year the chosen charity is the Hospice Palliative Care Association of South Africa.

This year’s sponsors were Leppard underwriters, EasyEquities and Higher Ground restaurant.

In the lead up to the run, Joburg was experiencing its third heatwave of the summer but true to highveld weather, the rains came along and put a dampener on things. And although difficult to make, the decision was made just before the start time to cancel the event for the safety of the runners.

Although the rains had set in and caused flooding in some parts of Joburg, things were not completely lost as a few brave runners ventured out onto the grounds of St Stithians for a quick 3km run.

All runners who came through to Higher ground were not disappointed as they were given drinks vouchers to use at the bar. Things got very festive as the night progressed as everyone received a Santa hat as part of their entry.

A successful night, although slightly different, went ahead.

Thank you once again to the sponsors and the restaurants who were involved. Diarise the 2020 event now, the first Wednesday in December.
