The 2018 FIA Summit – a smashing success!

The 2018 edition of the FIA Summit provided a full day of learning, insights, networking and connecting with people – and so much more! This year the format and style were a bit different from normal. The A-type personalities were a bit stressed out by the fact that the agenda wasn’t published beforehand, but this provided a space for the attendees to focus on the core messages that each speaker shared.

For a full review of what the day involved you can read the FIA blog here.

Our team enjoyed the day immensely and each took away something different. Here are a couple of words from some of them on their highlights.

Rob—”The ITOO donuts were a real crowd puller. Jokes aside, the FIA Summit was good because it reminded me that as an industry we forget how big it really is. It was fantastic to meet brokers, who were attending their first Summit from places as far afield as Rustenburg and Bloemfontein.”

Colin attended his first ever FIA summit—”By all accounts, I chose the right one to pop my cherry! I loved the talks, the activations and – most of all – the people. I learnt a lot, especially about healthcare legislation, and was the last to leave (with Allan, not surprisingly). Thanks FIA for a magical day.”

Josie caught an early morning flight from Durban to join us for the day and even managed to grab a tuk-tuk ride on route to the Sandton Convention Centre. Having been involved in the organisation of the first FIA Summit three years ago with Lombard Partnerships, “this years was leagues ahead of where we started”.

“I loved the diversity and quality of the speakers. Even topics that had little to do with me directly, I was generally captivated from start to finish. A well-coordinated event that still managed to encapsulate the chilled nature of our industry. I can’t wait to see what next year’s FIA Summit has in store.”

Kurt—”Wow, what a summit – from the diverse group of speakers to the setup. It was a pleasure to be a part of the #2018FIASummit, best one yet”!

Gianluca–“The #2018FIASummit was a success. We had diverse talks, interesting speakers and most importantly an engaging crowd who looked like they really took in the day’s proceedings.”

Neo—“The talk by Ntate Bonang Mohale stood out for me. He shared some hard truths and brought us to reality as he unpacked some of the issues we are faced as a country. He touched on the rate of unemployment, education and transformation, among other buring issues.”

Allan—”After a lot of team work and effort from the main organisers, the summit went off without a hitch. It was an exciting day filled with great speakers. I have had extremely positive feedback from many partners, who said they picked up some  thought-provoking ideas and concepts.”

Lethabo-Thabo—”I was involved in the video and interviews at the summit, which gave me the chance to chat to speakers and summit attendees. It was wonderful to hear from everyone how much they were enjoying the summit and what good value they obtained from being there.”

Emi—”The 2018 FIA Summit was absolutely great! The array of speakers offered so many insightful and diverse ideas that I really enjoyed listening to and engaging with. Overall the event was a great success and of benefit to all who attended.”

Rikus—”It is always difficult to work with so many sponsors and suppliers, to make sure everyone is happy and that everyone knows exactly what is going on. When everything comes together on the day, it makes all the planning worthwhile. It was lovely to see how all the activation sponsors supported each other on the day, with the open lounge layout encouraging the interaction.”

Blake—”My favourite thing was connecting with clients and friends in the industry that I don’t get to see often enough. I was reminded once again that business is about relationships and the financial industry has demonstrated the strength of relationships once again. This is why intermediaries play such an important role.”

That’s a wrap from the CN&CO team on the 2018 edition of the FIA summit.

If you missed out on this year’s edition keep an eye out on the FIA social media handles (Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn) over the coming weeks as they share podcasts and videos from the different speakers.

A reminder that FIA membership is available to all intermediaries, and not just those located in the Gauteng region. This includes long- and short-term insurance, employee benefits, healthcare and financial advisors.

Thanks to everyone who attended the summit and contributed to the superb day that it was.
