TED Talk Tuesday #88: 10 ways to have a better conversation

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was recommended by Innosys managing director Claire Wood and it revolves around conversations and people…

At CN&CO there is no secret to our passion for people, relationships and communicating. The world we live and operate in has people at its core and constant dialogue, sharing, learning and getting out there is integral to this.

We were delighted when Claire (a CN&CO client and friend) shared this talk and her reasons behind selecting it.

As an avid fan of TED Talks, Claire initially found it hard to pick the talk for this week due to the diverse topics and talks she has watched. However, the topic of this talk alone, centred around “conversations” was an immediate draw card to be her pick.

Celeste Headlee’s (writer and radio host) TED talk titled ’10 ways to have a better conversation’ is in Claire’s all-time top 10 and in her mind there is nothing more important than being able to connect with other people in a real and meaningful way.

Claire shares, “For most of us, conversation is how we make connections, it’s a skill, and like any other skill there is certainly no harm in getting some professional and experienced tips to enhance our own experiences.”

You can watch the talk recommended by Claire below. As she puts it, “It’s a real gem, it’s about engaging in better conversation and making genuine connections. What I love most about it, is that it delivers in teaching us all to be more open to listening and learning from every person you interact with.”

Enjoy the talk and thanks, Claire!
