TED Talk Tuesday #52: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was selected by Lorraine Lamola. Here’s why he chose it:

I chose this talk because it spoke to two of my fears, complacency and comfort. In it’s everyday usage, the latter is portrayed in a positive light, I mean who does not want to live comfortably? However, I like the manner in which Luvvie took a different approach to it.

Comfort can also have negative connotations especially where injustice or unfairness is concerned. Although silence may be golden, this talk made me take a second look at my approach to situations, was there a time when I was comfortable in a situation I shouldn’t have been? or have I not voiced my opinion, all for the sake of keeping peace AKA being comfortable?

In all it’s almost eleven minutes glory, from here onward I will replay this video in my head every time I have even the slightest doubt about something I believe in or even when I am terrified out stepping outside my comfort zone. Starting now #ImGonnaDoItAnyway
