TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was selected by Neo Matsei. Here’s why she chose it:
After watching a handful of Ted Talks, with an attempt to find one that resonates with me, I thought I should bring it home to Africa. I came across a remarkable young woman from Botswana, Siyanda Mohutsiwa, who through the hashtag #IfAfricaWasABar, was able to get a conversation started amongst millennials, where they connected and embraced the odds of their own countries. The hashtag explored African topics and shared ideas on how social media can be a platform to unite African voices and overcome borders.
Social media proved yet again that geography is no longer a barrier – people can connect from anywhere in the world.
