TED Talk Tuesday #30: The hidden power of smiling

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. This week’s talk was selected by Allan Bader. Here’s why he chose it:

While looking for this week’s TTT, I saw a feature entitled “Playlist (14 talks): What makes you happy?

This struck a cord with me immediately, not only because I would easily find something to post from it but mainly because since I joined CN&CO people have been telling me I look much happier. Former colleagues, industry mates, even my “normal” mates were telling me I no longer look like a miserable @sshole! It was encouraging to hear but also a little worrisome. How bad did I look?!

The below TTT is about something that I have consciously done over the last few years, contrary to the above statement, I smile! Maybe it was a case of faking it until you make it, but hey, I seem to have made it!

A smile can go a long way and the effort is worth it compared to the exercise one would need to do to work off 2000 bars of chocolate. And considering we are in a time where we have our heads down in our laptops or cellphones, we hardly get to show off our smiles. So go on and smile, you never know who may fall in love with it.

And you will live longer!
