TED Talk Tuesday #24: Everyone around you has a story the world needs to hear

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds.

This week’s talk was selected by CN&CO word nerd Colin Ford. Here’s why he chose it:

It’s interesting that this TED Talker’s name is Dave Isay, and what he does for a living (his passion, in fact) involves saying things.

Word-nerd minute over, I came across this TED Talk quite by accident. It was the featured talk on the TED website on the day I was looking for a bit of inspiration online. So I started watching, and it was amazing.

Isay is the 2015 TED Prize winner. His creation is called StoryCorps, which started in 2003 as a booth at Grand Central Station in New York. People were invited into the booth to interview each other and tell stories. The recordings were then uploaded to the Library of Congress for posterity. Today it is the largest single collection of human voices ever recorded. And, of course, there’s an app – which I have downloaded and look forward to trying out.

Do check out this TED Talk. It’s really moving. Listen out for the line, “Every single life matters, equally and infinitely.”

Colin is our resident wordsmith. He can write absolutely anything and loves to read, too. He even has his own book club.
