TED Talk Tuesday #127: Facebook’s role in Brexit – and the threat to democracy

Data. Privacy. Cambridge Analytica. Brexit. Facebook. The US elections.

All of the above are key themes in Netflix’s recent documentary The Great Hack and highlight just how much the average person has no idea how their data is being used by the tech giants around the world.

Carole Cadwalladr features in the Netflix documentary, but several months prior to the release of the production she took to the global stage on TED to discuss the issue, based on her investigative journalism.

There is no excuse for not being informed these days and understanding how seemingly “invisible” links exist in the world can help you make sense of the wild and turbulent times we seem to live in.

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, be informed or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds.
