TED Talk #161 – What you didn’t know about coffee

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. It’s also a way that the CN&CO team play their part on spreading ideas and helping to make the world a better place. The talk was recommended by Ahmed Sultan Bin Sulayem (Executive Chairman of the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre – a CN&CO partner).

Who drank a cup of coffee this morning?

I would be willing to bet a large number of people answer this question with a resounding ‘yes’.

Coffee is the second most popular drink in the world, after water of course. It has become an essential companion to millions of people’s daily routine from morning to night. Integrated into so many different conversations, moments and experiences.

As an Italian, what primarily gets me up in the morning is the thought of my morning cappuccino. That first 15-minutes of making it and enjoying it as I kickstart my actions for the day is priceless.

Roasting your own coffee at home

I thoroughly enjoyed this TED Talk (from TED x Ubud) recommended by Ahmed Bin Sulayem, an avid lover of coffee lover and Chairman of the DMCC. He particularly loves this commodity so much that he drove the establishment of the state-of-the-art DMCC Coffee Centre offering world-class infrastructure and services for green bean storage, processing and delivery of coffee to precise specifications.

The TED talk below by Asher Yaron, a coffee enthusiast and business owner in Kintamani, speaks to the consistently growing trend of more and more coffee lovers around the world preparing their coffee indoors. It explores the benefits of roasting your own coffee and focuses on re-capturing the positive effects (for health and quality) of fresh roasted coffee.

Enjoy the talk and be sure to have a delicious blend of your favourite roast in hand!

Gianluca brings a touch of Italian flair to everything he does. His eye for detail, superior organisational skills and rare ability to nag relentlessly (in the nicest possible way) help to keep the team on track and on target. Say good things to him about Juventus and you’ll have a friend for life.
