Startup Grind – UCT students leading the entrepreneurial way

When Carel met Lindo Goge via EasyEquities, and go to hear about all the great stuff this passionate student is up to with Startup Grind, he suggested Lindo shares some of the good news. It’s no secret by now that CN&CO (and our partner EasyEquities!) love education, entrepeneurs and helping youth succeed. Check it out below ….

As Startup Grind UCT our goal is to promote the entrepreneurial mindset. We want individuals to develop themselves, their business ideas and expand their network. We aim to achieve this by hosting different events that will inspire, educate, and connect the next generation of entrepreneurs and this begins with having a community that they can be part of and contribute to.

Through different partnership and sponsorship from different organizations such as EasyEquities, we can put together events and competitions together that will assist us in reaching our goal. With the ongoing pandemic we have had to operate virtually but that has not stopped us from engaging with members of our community and ensuring that we continue to inspire and educate them

Here are some of the events that we have managed to host over the past four months:

  1. Mashudu Modau (Opening Even)

Mashudu Modau is a young entrepreneur evangelist. He is the founder of Lutcha, Founder Sauce and the content producer of The Mashstartup Podcast which has been featured on Apple’s Top 10 Business & Entrepreneur podcasts in South Africa.

  • Aisha Pandor

In April we hosted Aisha Pandor, who is the co-founder of SweepSouth, she has been featured on Mail & Guardian’s list of 200 Young South Africans and is the former Winner of South African Women in Science Award. Aisha is also a UCT alumna, so it was a lot of fun having her on our platform. This event was hosted on out Instagram Live.

  • UCT Startup Founder’s Panel Discussion

In May we hosted an exciting Panel Discussion event that featured younger entrepreneurs from the University of Cape Town that are founders of incredible startups and have achieved amazing things over the couple of years. The guests included Thapelo Nthite the co-founder of Botlhale AI, Mvelo Hlophe the founder and CEO of Zaio, and Brian Mlambo the founder of Zero1 Creations. This event was very inspiring for our young members.

  • Xolisa Dyeshana

In May we also hosted the incredible and iconic Xolisa Dyeshana, who is the Executive Creative Director and Partner at Joe Republic, one of the biggest South African Advertising agencies. Xolisa has been named One of the Top 6 People to Watch in Advertising by Finweek. This event was one of the most fun and inspiring events we’ve had.

As we continue to operate virtually, we are trying our best to constantly stay engaged with our members and to educate and inspire them. As a result, member in our community have been growing significantly. We now have over 500 members who have signed up on our website and over 1000 followers on our social media platforms (search for startupgrinduct).
