SA National Rowing Champs 2019

The SA National Rowing Champs took place at Roodeplaat Dam the home of the RMB National Squad in Pretoria on the 27th & 28th of April, showcasing some incredible talent.

Spectators witnessed the RMB National Squad in action rowing in their TUKS gear, after returning from Italy where they placed third in the world at the Memorial Paolo d’Aloja Regatta.

The pressure was on and the nerves were high as the South African National Champs has become a selection regatta for the team as athletes aim to get a place in the boat to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Roger Barrows head coach of the RMB national rowing squad, said he has his work cut out for him selecting the best boats, as the team has great depth with some of the younger rowers really stepping up.

As part of the RMB sponsorship of the South African National Rowing Champs, they supported 73 development rowers to take part in the regatta.  Together with the amazing work Virginia Mabaso has been doing with development rowing there were a total of 185 development who took part in the regatta.

Many of these kids have to train on ergo’s and get limited time on the water, but it is really inspiring to see the talent.
