Row, eat, sleep, repeat: The RMB National Squad is back at training camp.

As most of South Africa gets ready for the festive season, it’s business as usual for the RMB National Squad.

Tiago Loureiro, head RMB National Squad Coach, has taken 11 athletes on training camp to Tzaneen for 15 days.

While assistant coaches Thato Mokoena and Andrew Grant are away at the Schools Boat Race in Port Alfred, Tiago will be assisted for short stints on camp by Athenkosi Hlekani from University of Johannesburg and St Benedict’s College, Bedfordview, and Rod MacDonald from St John’s College.

Grant Dodds, RMB National Squad coach, said: “We selected Tzaneen for a change of scenery for the athletes after many camps isolated in Lesotho last year, and also for its warm temperatures at this time of year. Unfortunately we have not been able to use Tzaneen for the past couple of years due to the extremely low water level of the dam.

“Everyone in the team is incredibly excited for this training camp. It will allow the team a high level of focus and quality training before the December holidays.

“These training camps are critical to the athletes’ preparation for the season and we thank our partners and service providers for all their support in make it happen.”

Tiago Loureiro and the coaching team wish everyone well for the Schools Boat Race in Port Alfred and happy training to everyone over the festive season. We will see you at the RMB VLC sprints Regatta in January 2022.
