Road-trippin’ in the RSA? You can’t beat the Kruger National Park

If someone says, “We’re going to the park for a few days”, you’ll know exactly which park they mean. The Kruger National Park is such a South African institution that it doesn’t need any further explanation.

Gregory and I try to get to “the park” at least once a year. No matter what season, or where we land up in the park, there’s always something memorable on each trip.

We recently bought a Wild Card, which gives us free access to more than 80 national parks, reserves and resorts throughout SA for a year. The card cost about R800, and has already paid for itself! For this trip we stayed at the Belvedere-On-River B&B in Malalane, overlooking the Crocodile River. It’s a fantastically over-the-top place, with little private patios and decks all over the place. Also nice big rooms with air-con, which is a must in the lowveld in December. We used our Wild Card to hit the park each day (for free!!).

BTW, if you’re in the area, be sure to pop into The Deck restaurant. Their steaks are delicious!

Accommodation and food aside, any trip to the park is about the game – and boy, did we see some special sights! Gregory is quite the whizz behind the lens of his Canon. Here are some of his top shots…
