RMB Starlight Classics ‘singles’ will give you goosebumps

A few of the CN&CO team were fortunate enough to attend the 2022 RMB Starlight Classics at Vergelegen in Somerset West last month. The evening was truly magical, filled with classic and contemporary numbers performed by some of South Africa’s top artists, accompanied by the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra.

Here are some of the amazing performances that we experienced at the event…

The Prayer’ was made famous by Andrea Bocelli in 1999, although its message of world peace and justice is particularly poignant today. This performance of the globally popular track was exquisitely sung by William Berger, Monica Mhangwana and the Mzansi Tenors:

The ultra-talented Mzansi Tenors made their debut performance at the 2022 RMB Starlight Classics. Their first song, ‘Qaqamba Nyana Wam’ (which means ‘Shine, My Dear Son’), was written especially for the occasion by the tenors themselves, along with music legend Ralf Schmitt. It shares the story of a young man starting his adult life:

Zoe Modiga wrote the track ‘Isegazini’ to celebrate our individual ability to change the world in a positive way. In this video she performs a specially arranged version of the song on the RMB Starlight Classics stage:

Mango Groove’s song ‘Another Country’ was written and first performed on the eve of South Africa’s democracy in 1994. In this iteration of the track, Thembeka Mnguni and Coenie de Villiers perfectly capture the sentiment of hope that the song espouses:
