RMB rowing partnership makes magic happen

RMB’s partnership with rowing in South Africa – from development to national level – continues to help make magic happen.

“RMB has committed to support South African rowing from grass roots to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics,” says CN&CO’s Blake Dyason, who works with our partners at rowing’s National Squad, Rowing South Africa (RowSA), Team Powerhouse Trust (the sponsorship engine behind rowing in South Africa) and RMB to facilitate and manage the relationship.

RMB supports the development of rowing through billboard advertising at five rowing schools in various parts of South Africa . Helping to develop the sport and enable South Africa’s chance of winning medals on the international stage is key to the banks partnership with RowSA which is why the bank also sponsors four major South African regattas, contributing to RowSA’s development programme. At a national level the bank’s focus is on the RMB National Squad, which comprises all rowers who represent South Africa in the sport.

“This year we have seen great results from the RMB National Squad, with Kirsten McCann winning gold at the World Rowing Championships,” says Blake. “But it’s not just on the world’s international rowing courses that we’re seeing success.”

Earlier this year, RMB contributed to the Nemato Change a Life development programme. That contribution recently helped a bit of magic to happen…

“The St Andrew’s Nemato Under 19 Quad team won the Heads Race, which took place at Water’s Edge in Knysna on 16 October. This is a massive feather in the cap for the St Andrew’s development programme and grassroots rowing in South Africa as a whole.”

Lucy Lightfoot, (Head of Brand) at RMB, says the Nemato team’s achievement is a great example of the talent that exists in South Africa and is a reason to ensure their partnership helps to promote the talent pipeline for Rowing South Africa. .

“We were as delighted with Nemato’s victory as we were with Kirsty’s gold at World Champs,” she says. “We see our involvement extending from development rowing right through to the National Squad and are equally committed to achieving success across the spectrum.”
