Since its inception in 2009, the Ndlovu Youth Choir has profoundly affected the lives of the choristers and demonstrates the potential of any human being to achieve excellence no matter their background, education or place of birth. From its humble beginnings as an after-school activity the choir has evolved into a truly outstanding professional ensemble.
The choir is part of the Ndlovu Care Group’s globally acclaimed childcare community programme. The care group’s vision is “Creating healthy, responsible and self-sustaining communities in rural South Africa”. The choir aims to ensure that a child from a disadvantaged community can enjoy the same musical tuition, care and opportunities as a child from a more affluent society.
Last week following their second appearance on America’s Got Talent (AGT), it was announced that they had progressed through to the next round of the talent show. This means that they are through to the live performance rounds and will be heading to Hollywood in August.
Following the announcement we hosted a small media breakfast at the Higher Ground Resturant at St Stithians College last week. It was special to talk with members of the choir and have a few members of the media present to interview them.
While at the breakfast, the choir paid tribute to Johnny Clegg who recently passed away. Just as Clegg united a nation through song, the choir too are sharing their infectious energy and uniting South African’s.
The Ndlovu Youth Choir have had an exceptional 2019 so far. Their journey continues to excite, unite and energise South Africa and the world. We wish them all the very best for the next round of AGT in Hollywood.
