Following the success of the “Pop Up with Limited Edition Print” pop-up shop at at Parktown Girls’ in October 2015, David Krut Projects now bring you the “Opening the drawers: A Limited Edition Print Pop Up Shop”.

Beautifully editioned fine art prints* by local and international artists will be on display, spanning 14 years of collaborations with David Krut Workshop (DKW).

The pop-up will “open the drawers” and showcase a broad range of work from DKW’s specialised intaglio and monotype workshop, where its team of printers, headed by master printer Jillian Ross, has collaborated with more than 60 artists since 2002.

South African artists who have worked with DKW include William Kentridge, Diane Victor, Deborah Bell, Wilma Cruise, Sam Nhlengethwa, Stephen Hobbs, Maja Maljević, Willem Boshoff, Colbert Mashile, Senzo Shabangu, Penny Siopis, Mary Wafer and Quinten Edward Williams. Our international collaborators are Jürgen Partenheimer (Germany), Christopher Cozier (Trinidad), Joe Hart (United States), Locust Jones (Australia) and Godfried Donkor (United Kingdom).

Opening the drawers offers buyers the opportunity to purchase work by up-and- coming as well as established artists. With plentiful parking, live music by The Runaway Train Cult and an array of bespoke food trucks and beverages on site, this one day pop-up event is not to be missed. To appeal to first time buyers as well as collectors, prices will start from R 1 800.

Additional activities include the supervised making of unique collage works from old, torn-up editions made in the workshop. Activities are for children of all ages on site and will be under the guidance of the printers Kim-Lee Loggenberg, Sbongiseni Khulu and Chad Cordeiro, from DKW.

* Editioned prints can range from five to fifty in a series. The term refers to a total number of impressions pulled from a single plate, which the artist has etched or engraved by hand. Printmaking offers artists the chance to produce work on a more assessable and affordable scale. Each print is signed personally by the artist and requires a diligent, individual process, hence reproduction is limited.

ABOUT DAVID KRUT PROJECTS

David Krut Projects, with locations in Johannesburg, Cape Town and New York, is an alternative arts institution dedicated to encouraging an awareness of and careers in the arts and related literature and media, and to promoting contemporary culture in a dynamic, collaborative environment.
