Money matters of the super wealthy top agenda at Elite Wealth Conference

22 March 2021: One of the calendar highlights of the year, the Elite Wealth Conference, which takes place virtually on 31 March 2021, will offer brokers and their clients a rare opportunity to delve into the unique challenges and opportunities facing SA’s super wealthy.

“We are excited to bring this conference for the first time to South Africa,” says Christelle Colman, MD of Elite Risk Acceptances, a wholly owned subsidiary of Old Mutual Insure. “There is no doubt that COVID-19 has impacted the spending habits of the super-rich. This Conference will share valuable insights from international and local speakers that will equip attendees to better serve and understand this niche market in SA.”

According to reports, COVID-19 only increased the coffers of the wealthy. The pandemic unleashed pent-up demand resulting in a spending spree by the rich on fine wine and whiskey, diamonds, classic cars and other alternative asset classes.

“We continue to see that the ultra-high net worth investor, informed by uncertainty, looks for alternative asset classes to diversify portfolios and provide resilient returns throughout different stages of the pandemic,” says Colman.

Bloomberg predicts that cask whiskey is to be one of the biggest alternative investments in 2021, while the Liv-ex Fine Wine 1000 suggests that the value of fine wine has shot up by 200% over the past decade.

In line with this, Marcus Allen, Director of Development at London-based Cult Wines, together with Aarash Ghatineh, Executive Director at Cult Wines, will speak about wine as an alternative investment class at the Elite Wealth Conference. Since 2007, Cult Wines has become the global leader in providing analytically based, fine wine investment advice.

Another highlight will be Mohammed Yaseen Nalla’s presentation on the SA wealth market post COVID-19 through a global lens. Nalla is the founder of Magic Markets and is a CFA Charter holder with over 15 years of global experience within capital markets, investment management and strategy.

Elite Risk Acceptances will also be launching a fantastic training tool specifically designed to sell and cultivate connections in a digital world, and Shelley Walters, Founder of The Sales Counsel, will discuss the tool and tricks on how to get this right. Besides being a renowned speaker, Walters is also the creator of Africa’s first Remote Selling School (accredited by the IISA).

Brokers who attend the Conference will earn CPD points and attendees will stand the chance to win exceptional spot prizes sponsored by Colmant wine estate in Franschhoek. There will also be a draw for a Louis Vuitton handbag, valued at R25 000. The Elite Wealth Conference will start at 10am on 31 March 2021 and attendance is free.
