Mlu is back on the saddle

Supporting local talent and initiatives is a common thread at Lombard Partnerships. A few months ago we published a blog about Mlungisi Mazibuko (or Mlu as he prefers to be known), an avid young, talented mountain biker who received a new bike earlier this year co-sponsored by Lombard Partnerships and Sponsorshop, two of CN&CO’s partners and friends.

Mlu is a truly talented young man. A student at Durban’s Glenwood High School and a biking fanatic. Unfortunately, due to an injury, Mlu had to take some time off competitive racing. We caught up with Mlu to check in on his progress.

Game face Mlu

“After my shoulder injury which lasted about 4 months, I have been working very hard to get myself back in shape for the Amashova coming up in October. It has been very difficult trying to keep a balance between my studies and my training but I have been focusing more towards the academic side rather than the cycling. Coming back has been quite an amazing journey and I was also looking forward to getting back on the bike with my friends again. Even though I have had a lot of catching up to do I am now finally able to keep up once again.” says Mlu

The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic is the oldest road classic cycle race in South Africa and which takes place between Pietermaritzburg and Durban on October 20, 2019.

“I will be taking part in The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic, this event will be my last event for the year, as I will be starting my Matric Finals in November and I will not be riding my bike until December. I will be doing the 106km event and I am working very hard towards achieving a new personal best in this event”.

“I would like to thank my great sponsors – Lombard Partnerships, The Sponsorshop SA and CN&CO for their great support in my sporting career. They have helped me improve my riding to be at its best today, by supplying me with my cycling equipment and making sure I’m geared up for racing. Most importantly though, for always encouraging me to work hard, whether it’s on the bike or at school. Not many people get this opportunity and I wish to encourage more businesses to start supporting South African talent the way Lombard Partners, CN&CO and the Sponsorshop SA have done for me.”

Thanks have to go to you Mlu, for inspiring us and many others with your passion and dedication. All the best for The Tsogo Sun Amashova Durban Classic and your matric finals, we have no doubt you are going to excel in both. All the best and catch up soon.
