Marine Forum Golf-day with Lombard and Horizon

The annual Marine Forum is currently taking place at Kievits Kroon Country Estate in Pretoria.

A number of local and international delegates have converged there to discuss all things Marine insurance related. Only Insurers and Reinsurers are allowed to attend, unless you have been invited to present as a broker.

Before the lecture sessions got underway today, Friday and for half of Saturday, a few of the delegates got together at the Irene Country Club to participate in the third annual Marine Forum golf-day. This event has been organised by Horizon Underwriting Managers own Mike Brews, a Partner of Lombard Insurance, which in turn is a partner of CN&CO.

I was lucky enough to drive the drinks cart, sponsored by Lombard Insurance, around the immaculate course. Needless to say, no one went thirsty. There was also a “chip ‘n win” competition sponsored by Lombard. Where each player had to chance to win a case of Chocolate Block wine. All they had to do was be nearest to the bucket. The tricky part was that the players were chipping a Lombard stress ball. An added incentive was if they could chip a ball directly in to the bucket, they would win a bottle immediately.

Although a modest field, whilst driving around I was able to witness the friendship that has developed between these players in the industry, which primarily started over emails and has grown each year that the Forum happens and they get to meet up. It really does show the importance of networking and partnership. Something that Lombard Insurance prides itself on through their various Partnerships with UMA’s. It is also something that we at CN&CO believe in.

Over the course of the day and a half sessions, they will be discussing new practices in the market. Walking away with more knowledge than they started with. Ultimately translating into better service to the client and industry as a whole.

Should you need to more information on marine insurance, and remember that it does not only constitute boats and ships, but also Goods In Transit, Stock Throughput among others, contact one of Horizons offices in Joburg, Durban or Cape Town.
