Love Our Trails Lions Head Clean-Up

CN&CO’s Blake Dyason founded Love Our Trails, a movement to create awareness and educate trail uses about caring for our trails.

Love Our Trails hosts regular clean-up on popular trails, making it safe and fun to get out in nature, meet like-minded people and make a difference. These clean-ups generate conversation and understanding about the impact of litter, educating fellow trail users through leading by example.

On Sunday 25 February Love Our Trails hosted the first trail clean up for 2018 on Lions Head. With over 50 enthusiastic volunteers attending, we broke the group up into teams making sure we covered the whole mountain.

Lions Head was the cleanest it has been in four years, but sadly we still have a long way to go. The team collected over 60 bags of litter.

The good news is that our trails are looking cleaner. Sadly, the majority of the litter comes from the people parking on the side of the road and dumping their litter.

“One of my favourite things about these clean-ups is that they are so inclusive,” says Blake. “They bring people of all fitness levels, ages, religions and backgrounds together to share one interest: to give back to our trails.

Massive shout out to SANParks and Friend of Lions Head and Signal Hill for supporting, keeping our trail helpers safe and helping remove all the bags of litter, K-Way for supporting and helping cover the costs of the cleaning equipment, Tuffy’s Bags for sponsoring the big white rubbish bags and Fitchef for those yummy smoothies.
