Let’s help crowdfund the Jozi Film Festival

The Jozi Film Festival is desperately in need of support. Now in its sixth year, JFF is Joburg’s longest running multi-genre festival, and has 100% independent and proudly South African over the years.

“It’s always a struggle to raise the funds needed to cover the costs of running the festival, but this year has been extra tough,” says festival founder and organiser Lisa Henry. “We work on the festival as volunteers, so all the money we raise goes directly to covering hard costs.

“We also support emerging filmmakers with internships and bursaries with our film industry partners.”

Lisa and the JFF team have issued a plea to all friends of the Jozi Film Festival and lovers of independent cinema to help out with a small donation to help the 2017 festival to cover its costs.

“Our current shortfall is R40 000, but any amount would be welcome,” says Lisa. “We’re offering tickets to the opening and closing nights for every R250 donation – but don’t feel restricted!”

This year’s Jozi Film Festival opens at Rosebank’s Cinema Nouveau on Thursday, 21 September with first time partner, Discovery Channel. The 10 short documentaries that were selected as finalists in the new “Don’t Stop Wondering” competition will be screened on opening night.

The closing event will be held on Sunday, 24 September at The Sheds @ 1 Fox Street at 6.30pm. John Vlismas will MC and local musician Majozi will be performing.

The rest of the 2017 films will screen between these two events at a range of venues, and all the winners will be announced at the closing event.
