JSE She Invests arena

We at CN&CO are strong believers in #FinancialInclusion; our relationships with a number of financial partners like EasyEquities and Satrix speak to this. We love initiatives that empower people to understand their money and use it to contribute to the economy. We are also big believers in conversation and how this can help us make changes in our lives and the lives of those around us. The JSE She Invests arena event is a conversation, for women, on financial matters in women’s month. A winning combination.

Our partners EasyEquities and Satrix both had investment-savvy women in the event line-up namely, Carly Barnes of EasyEquities and Candice Paine of Satrix. Carly shared her journey with EasyEquities and how she has gone from being @shoegalcarly to being @sharegalcarly on Twitter and in life. Candice discussed financial freedom; the different types of financial freedom, and how you can use your investments to help you get there.

“’Give a girl the right shoes and she can conquer the world’ – I think Marilyn Monroe was on to something.  Empowered with the right knowledge, access and community we can pretty much do anything. This was never more clear to me than on Saturday, 4th August at the first #JSESheInvests event at the Joburg Stock Exchange.” These are the words of EasyEquities brand goddess Carly Barnes.

On the event, she shares:

“There we were… a delightful mix of women of different ages, colours, and levels of investment experience, who had come together from all parts of the country to learn more about our money and how to take the first or next step towards financial freedom.”

The speaker line-up was filled with good speakers such as also included Khanyi Dhlomo of Ndalo Media who shared her financial empowerment journey and gaining confidence in investment; Zeona Jacobs of the JSE who spoke about the role of the JSE and the importance of exchange investment; and Kelly Fung of Elle South Africa who spoke about investing in your brand and how power dressing can help you build your brand.

Other topics included ETFs, investing for a realistic future, self-defence techniques, and tips on investing. The presentations were relevant and interesting; making the event fun but highly beneficial for all in attendance. Sheena Adams, editor of Destiny Magazine, did the welcome and the opening for the event.

The JSE has made a few of  the presentations available at this link. So you can read these presentations and get a taste of the useful financial knowledge that was shared at this interesting event.

Chris Rule shared three simple investing tips at the event. In the webinar below, the CoreShares and EasyEquities teams – including Chris Rule – discuss these three simple investing tips.
