Join Africa’s largest clean-up!

It’s a dream come true. Today we officially announce Africa’s largest clean-up, which takes place from 14 to 18 July 2018.

“I remember hosting my first big clean up three years ago on Table Mountain,” says CN&CO’s Blake Dyason, who spearheaded the Africa clean-up initiative. “A year later I partnered with 5FM, Two Oceans Aquarium, Clean C, Sea Shepherds and Waste Plan to host five clean-ups across Cape Town.

“Today we launch the Actforchange.Africa continent cleanup, driven by Shoprite Group and Brownie-Points, with the support of many organisations including the United Nations Environment Programme, WESSA, PETCO and POLYCO.”

“By working together, pooling our resources and building on our strengths, we can accomplish great things.” – Ronald Reagan.

The continent cleanup kicks off with over 490 clean-ups across nine African countries. This is thanks in part to the Shoprite Group, which has committed resources to cleanup activations from Cape Town to Nigeria.

“Shoprite Group has an impressive footprint across Africa and really believes in supporting its communities,” says Blake. “With the help of the Brownie-Points volunteering website we aim to attract thousands of volunteers and empower people to host clean-ups in every community across the continent.

“There is a lot of awareness around litter and specifically plastic pollution with thousands of people doing their bit to make a difference. This is an opportunity for Africa to unite in one initiative to create huge awareness, while making a real difference and educating each other about better ways to manage waste.

“Litter affects all of us. Join the movement today and help us make a meaningful difference.”
