The COVID-19 crisis has placed a cloak of unknown over the future of the things we once considered normal. The spread of the virus has forced the world to stop, reflect, and unite to address it. At the time of writing this blog there are over two billion people who are under lock down conditions and over 806 000 people who have been infected by the virus. This time has also highlighted the phenomenal leadership of our President, Cyril Ramaphosa, who has taken proactive and bold steps to protect South Africans.
It is amazing to see how people and organisations are joining forces while being physically distanced to combat the impact that the virus is having and will have on the broader community.
In the spirit of Ubuntu, EasyEquities has joined the cause to combat COVID-19.
On the 23rd of March 2020, Charles Savage, the CEO of EasyEquities pledged a donation of R100 000 to the Solidarity Fund.

EasyEquities and the EasyCommunity want to play their part in supporting South Africans affected by the COVID-19 outbreak. That’s why they developed the “Donate for Good” function on the platform that invites investors to donate directly to the Solidarity Fund.

Across South Africa, people and organisations have offered to help address the impact of COVID-19 and the Solidarity Fund has been established to help facilitate this. The fund aims to:

The Solidarity Fund enables individuals and organisations to support efforts that are being established to address the impact of COVID-19 through secure, tax-deductible donations. The fund operates with the highest principles of corporate governance and has an independent Board. All activities will be reported in a transparent manner.
The scale of the impact COVID-19 will have on the global economy is yet to be fully determined and only time will tell just how the future will unfold. Small acts, donations, and contributions together can make a big difference. Together we can unite and play our part in combatting COVID-19.
So, next time you are on the EasyEquities platform look out for their “donate for good” section on the share purchase page. Ensure you have enough funds in your available cash to add a donation to your investment selected and confirm the amount you would like to donate. The donation feature is available in the EasyEquities ZAR and TFSA accounts.
