InsureTalk2 – so what’s new?

Hot on the heels of the success of our first ever InsureTalk online conference, CN&CO Events hosted the sequel, InsureTalk2, on 14 May 2020. The event was headline-sponsored by Old Mutual Insure, and our event partners were Bowmans & Legacy Underwriting Managers. A big thanks from the CN&CO team to our sponsors, as well as our superb MC, Simon Colman of SHA.

Here are some screengrabs of what went down:

Christine Rodrigues, partner at Bowmans, gave a talk titled: Business Interruption and Covid-19… Trigger for Change in Insurance Coverage. Christine’s presentation was extremely popular and had the Q&A and chat channels pinging throughout the InsureTalk session

The hottest online performer on CN&CO’s channels right now is Bianca Le Grange, who kept the 200 or so delegates entertained with some old favourites, including an homage to David Kramer and his vellies (which ties in nicely later)
Legacy Underwriting Managers’ Christo Crafford spoke on tools and tips for intermediaries to survive and thrive post Covid-19. (He also revealed why we’re all baking banana bread, but that’s another story)
Thokozile Mahlangu, CEO of the Insurance Association of South Africa, provided a highlight of the online courses that are available, not only in South Africa, but across the world as tech breaks down the barriers of geography. These courses are a great way to get your CPD hours up before the 31 May deadline, by the way
Next up was FA News founder and editor-in-chief Rianet Whitehead, who is also the brain behind the super-popular online series, The Insurance Apprentice. Unfortunately, fans of the show will have to wait until 3 June to discover who the winner is. Rianet spoke to the two finalists, Amogelang Kgaladi and Memory Zimba, at InsureTalk2 about the process

Christelle Colman of Elite Risk Acceptances (part of Old Mutual Insure) gave an insightful look into some possible scenarios facing the motor insurance market in the context of working from home during the Covid-19 lockdown, and the introduction of self-driving cars
Nick Dreyer, co-founder and CEO of Veldskoen Shoes, told the fascinating story of the rise of the veldskoen in South Africa and around the world. Interesting “did you know”… the SA Olympic team will be wearing veldskoens for the opening ceremony of the games, which are currently scheduled to take place in Tokyo in 2021

If you missed out on InsureTalk2, don’t stress. Find out how to watch the recording by contacting Llewellyn du Plessis: llewellyn@cnandco.com. You can still watch, and you can still earn your CPD hours.

And don’t forget to book for InsureTalk3, sponsored by SHA, which takes place on 11 June 2020 from 10am to 1pm.
