Insurance veteran Ben Tonkin to present course at IISA in May

The Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA) has education at its core, offering key learning for the industry and CPD points. At home in its new offices in Hyde Park, the IISA team is already rolling out and encouraging attendance to a number of training events in its iTOO Premium Learning Centre.

Ben Tonkin

The IISA will be hosting a three-day training session with Ben Tonkin, insurance industry veteran of more than 50 years, in the iTOO Premium Learning Centre in May. The IISA and iToo are both CN&CO clients.

The Ben Tonkin session will provide the practical knowledge and skills needed to:

  • obtain new business by researching the current portfolio, identifying gaps or omissions in cover, using claims experience and risk factors to best advantage, obtaining cost-effective premiums and formally presenting recommendations to the prospective customer
  • retain the customer by using file information to identify omissions or gaps in cover, offer alternative options and obtain the most advantageous renewal terms, and formally present to the customer, who can be a senior insurer or broker

Course content

The course will take the form of a case study that will involve use of a generic commercial policy wording, FAIS compliance processes, interviewing actual insurers to obtain terms, development of a presentation and delivery of the formal presentation to the customer or prospective customer. It is the complete new business process from A to Z.
