i+i+i = WE. And boy have we been busy!

CN&CO have partnered with ITOO Special Risks on some fantastic initiatives over the past couple of months. This dynamic new team is certainly full of energy and is keeping us on our toes!

Here is what we have been up to…

IICOGH Potjie competition.

On the 18th of May the talented ITOO Masterchefs: Kelly Smith, Melissa Brink, Nadia van der Westhuizen, Natalie Coetzee and Nicolene Jonas made a delicious Moroccan Oxtail Potjie. It was so good that our ITOO Masterchefs came fourth out of 16 teams! Congrats guys!

Drones

Resident Drone expert, Bryan Verpoort, has been very busy over the last few months presenting on Drone insurance. This is a hot topic at the moment with brokers increasingly requiring information for their clients on drone related covers.

Bryan is revered as the expert in drone insurance in Southern Africa and has been invited to speak at several conferences. He spoke at the Vodaworld drone exhibition from 7 – 9 June, where Bryan spoke about the need for the drone pilots to secure their own insurance as the operator, as well as the UAV company that employs them.

He is currently speaking at the East Africa Drone Conference in Kenya.

ITOO at GWII

The latest Gauteng Women in Insurance (GWII) event took place on Tuesday night and was hosted by Hollard. Richard Mulholland was the guest speaker. Tammy Jackson, a Joburg based broker consultant for ITOO and GWII committee member commented; “Richard is a wonderful speaker and had the ladies in stitches. It was a fantastic evening where the ladies in the industry could be together and network”

Fisokuhle Thusini, an underwriting specialist in the ITOO team also attended. “We had the pleasure of listening to a very interesting and informative talk by Rich Mulholland, who motivated me to think differently and not be afraid to take risks, or make mistakes and inspired me to have the guts to follow through with my ideas”

IIG Midwinter Sports

ITOO entered a team at this years IIG midwinter sports event. Pirates Sports Club was the venue for this energetic industry networking function. Teams from Discovery, GIB, Fulcrum, Chubb and others put teams forward and played a few solid games of soccer. Fulcrum had awesome jerseys made with each team members number representing the year they started at Fulcrum. A nice touch! Well done Fulcrum!

The ITOO team consisted of 6 ladies and 1 guy… here is what he had to say!

“The women of ITOO Special Risks are a force to be reckoned with!

It was both inspiring and humbling to find our ladies, put their hands up to represent a majority girls team.

As the only male on the team, I was seen as a thorn among the roses, but I believe for most, it was just great to see an alternative to the status quo. An awesome experience indeed.

Thank You to Chrisann, Kirsten, Leo, Fiso, Tshebela and Mbali

A special thank you to everyone that came through for support”.

Cyber Update

In early May over 150 countries were attacked by the Ransomware, WannaCry. Cyber Crime is the fastest growing criminal activity across the globe, making Cyber Insurance hugely relevant product. ITOO Cyber Insurance expert Ryan van der Coolwijk was invited to give comment on CNBCAfrica the morning after the attack. Ryan and his team are focusing on broker education to assist brokers in understanding the exposures their clients face and making sure the right covers are in place. Check out the full story here.

Ryan and Candice Sutherland, also a Cyber specialist, were part of the FIA Broker Power sessions that took place around the country, where they presented on Cyber threat & insuring against reputational risks from social media. Have a look here for more information on the sessions.

Well done ITOO on an action packed 2 months!
