I wish someone told me about the importance of donating bone marrow

Medicine has come a long way in the past few years. One such development is the process of donating bone marrow. No longer is this essential procedure invasive and painful. It now involves the mere prick of a needle, and you could benefit someone’s lifeline.

Did you know…

The chances of finding a bone marrow match in SA is 1: 100 000 and we only have 75 000 registered bone marrow donors!

Mighty Mack needs YOU!

Four-month-old Mackenzie Friedman, affectionately known as Mighty Mack, has been diagnosed with the most aggressive form of leukemia – AML MLL M10.

This form of cancer is particularly difficult to kill off and she will continue to relapse. On Monday 31st May 2021, Mack was classified as High Risk and she is now in DIRE need of a Bone Marrow Transplant within the next few weeks.

We urge you to please register as a bone marrow donor.

Registration entails a quick cheek swab and if you are found to be a match, as mentioned above, the process is painless, unlike the complex procedure it once was in the past. You could be her match and save her – or another baby’s life!

  • If you are between the ages of 16 and 35, chances of you being a match are far more likely.
  • We all have the gift of life within us. Let’s use it for someone in need.

Please visit the @sabonemreg page for more information. The most efficient way to register is by physically visiting a bone marrow drive closest to you or at the walk-ins at one of the three following @dkms_africa regional offices:
