I wish someone had told me how to focus on my goals

“I wish someone had told me” is a series of posts that feed into our inquisitive nature at CN&CO. Each week we hear from someone in our network about something interesting or surprising that’s recently happened or occurred to them – or lessons they learnt. These blogs are a way to pay it forward and form part of CN&CO’s belief that the world can be a better place – and we all have a responsibility to make it so. This week’s (second) post is by Gianluca and is about a method of focusing on and achieving your important goals…

Do you use a to-do list? Or an application that does it for you? Do you often turn around and think, “Why is this list getting longer and longer?” Do you feel behind at times and feel you have hundreds of things on the go?

Well, it’s not uncommon. Sometimes a little process of elimination is necessary. I highly recommend James Clear‘s article Warren Buffett’s 2 List Strategy: How to Maximize Your Focus and Master Your PrioritiesIt’s a great read and shares Warren’s insight and strategy to focus on the goals and task most important to you.

He articulates this through a story which recollects an encounter with his pilot. I won’t give too much away, but I really liked James’ view on the power of elimination. He says, “I believe in minimalism and simplicity. I like getting rid of waste. I think that eliminating the inessential is one of the best ways to make life easier, make good habits more automatic, and make you grateful for what you do have.”

Give the article a read and the method a try. No doubt your top five and good habit consistency will be in hitting the back of the net in no time! (I couldn’t resist ending with a little football analogy.)

Gianluca brings a touch of Italian flair to everything he does. His eye for detail, superior organisational skills and rare ability to nag relentlessly (in the nicest possible way) help to keep the team on track and on target. Say good things to him about Juventus and you’ll have a friend for life.
