How to disagree productively and find common ground – Ted Talk Tuesday

I love TED for many reasons. But at the very core of that TED appreciation, is the way it mentally switches on a light in my brain. I am suddenly transported away from the here and now, and take a journey inside my intellect and learn something that I didn’t know or even consider 7 or 15 minutes before I selected “play”.

The really good TED Talks stay with me for the remainder of the day and pop into my consciousness for a few days after.

This is one of those talks. It left me thinking similar thoughts as I did when I first engaged with Colleen Magner and the team at Reos Partners. In a year now where we have had to embrace a more fractured way of being “together” this notion of positive debate and the experience felt during the Reos Scenario Planning workshop nine years ago reminds me of the power of human intelligence and the power of being together to discuss, contemplate, challenge and debate.

Watching this video is a wonderful way to spend several minutes. A light went on for me.

Watching TED Talks is a popular pastime at CN&CO. We visit TED.com regularly to clear our heads, have a laugh or get inspired. TED Talks open our minds, spark new ways of thinking and can lead to some very interesting conversations. Each week we pick a favourite and publish it on a Tuesday, because we like how “TED Talk Tuesday” sounds. It’s also a way that the CN&CO team play their part on spreading ideas and helping to make the world a better place. Check out all the talks shared in the series here.
