Got a Mo?

Once again, we’ve reached that time of year. It’s the month of MOVEMBER.

The challenge: grow a moustache of any shape or form or size.

The goal: Generate awareness around prostate cancer and to then translate knowledge into action ensuring that men are prioritizing their health and wellness in order to fundamentally change the way in which men are treated and supported.

Four Australians that wanted to bring back the moustache started Movember. Since then, the initial concept grew into something far greater than a seasonal trend. Movember is now the leading global organization committed to changing the light in which men’s health is viewed in order to make a contribution to men living longer and healthier lives, using the Movemeber organization and its partners as a platform to reach this goal. The organization operates in 23 different countries ensuring that it is a global initiative. The initiative is currently the only of its kind bringing leading experts together from around the world in order to fundamentally reach a solution on a way forward in dealing with Men’s Health.

The facts linked to Men’s Health concerns are scary. Prostate cancer rates will double in the next 15 years. Testicular cancer rates have already doubled in the last 50. Three quarters of suicides are men. Poor mental health leads to half a million men taking their own life every year. That’s one every minute.

Our friend at Nutreats, Zissy Lewin recently wrote a blog titled ‘Movember: Harnessing the power of conversation through Moustaches’. In her blog, she speaks of the growth of the initiative highlighting the fact that this year, Movember is focused on encouraging men to open up and speak about their health and emotions in order to lower the terrible statistics linked to these men’s health issues. Nutreats as a company draws its attention to health, wealth and active living. They encourage that healthy living is achievable by making positive choices; that health is not restrictive and is most certainly achievable.

Our clients at the Purple Group have joined the Movember movement headed up by Jono Bruton, founder of Dead Reckoning, a partner to CN&CO who is the lead driver of East London’s Movember; the biggest contributor in South Africa. We are inviting all our friends and contacts to enter the competition for the month of November by simply joining the Mo Movement. The  intention is to get people talking about prostate and testicular cancer, mental health and suicide prevention.

We challenge you to get involved in the Movember movement by making a donation to Mo Bro Jono’s efforts or by making a donation to continue generating awareness around this cause. Alternatively, if you are an active individual, what better way to get active than moving for a purpose. This Movember you can also Move for Men’s Health by getting physically active while raising funds for this global initiative.

You can also take part in Purple Group’s Movember challenge by doing the following…

“Many have lost someone or know someone who has been a victim to cancer. We are hear to play our role in supporting friends and families as well as remembering lost loved ones! We do this because we can!” – Jono Bruton

Let’s get our Mo’s to grow!
