Gather your team. Business Bowls coming soon!

According to jackhighbowls.com, Lawn bowls’ origins can be traced right back to the ancient Egyptians. Archaeological findings support the theory that a game with biased stone balls was played almost 7000 years ago. Their version had sticks as targets and would be played in the dirt instead of on grass. It was then picked up and played in England since the 13th century. It waxed and waned in popularity until the mid-19th century, when it experienced a revival, especially in Scotland. The Scots developed flat greens and drew up rules that remain largely unchanged

So here we are in 2022. After many lockdowns, many restrictions, and very minimal social and networking time. Luckily, the team at Bryanston Sports Club (BSC), are changing that and are planning their very first Business Bowls experience. Think team building, think networking, think fun and good banter, of course mixed with a little competitiveness too, who wouldn’t want to be crowned Bryanston Sports Clubs’ very first “Business Bowls” champions.

Bryanston Sports club is no stranger to CN&CO, as we have hosted many client functions as well as our very first Bubbles & Bowls year-end event at BSC. All were a great success and loads of fun.

BSC corporate events coordinator, Eric Cowling says, “We are inviting people to enter a company team, or teams, in this tournament that will create networking opportunities for people and companies in the Bryanston, Fourways, Randburg, Sandton and Midrand areas”

The first game will commence on Thursday afternoon, 5 May from 16:00 to 17:30 and run weekly for five weeks. There are no special dress requirements (but the funkier the better) other than the need for flat-soled shoes and barefoot bowls is allowed. Bowls will be provided to participants who do not have their own.

Eric explains the format; “Trips, teams of three players, can comprise: ladies’, men’s or mixed teams. Snacks will be served, at no extra cost, after each game, providing an opportunity to socialise and enjoy the comradery with your fellow bowlers.”

The cost for this five-week tournament is only R1,000 (Inclusive of VAT) per team of three bowlers. This equates to a weekly charge of R200 per team, which makes this even more appealing.
