Eighth Jozi Film Festival: entries flooding in

CN&CO is ecstatic to announce our continued involvement in the Jozi Film Festival in 2019. CN&CO chief señor Carel Nolte and JFF founder Lisa Henry go way back to the very beginning of the festival in 2012, with Carel having been a sponsor since then.

“The Jozi Film Festival is Johannesburg’s longest-running, independent, multi-genre film festival, screening both local and international films at various venues across the City of Gold,” says Lisa. “Small and gritty, and critically acclaimed, the festival’s main aim is to provide a platform for both established and emerging South African filmmakers, while also showing international films that speak to a diverse Jozi audience.”

This year will mark the eighth year of the Jozi Film Festival and we have no doubt that it’s going to be as epic as ever.

The festival will run from 3 to 6 October 2019. The opening night will host a feature film along with delicious food and beverages. The screenings will be held at various non-traditional venues around Johannesburg. The Bioscope Independent Cinema is located in Maboeng and has proved to be a popular venue for attendees of the screenings.

Films are rolling in left, right and centre. Both local and international filmmakers are submitting their original films. The judges are viewing the films and will decide on the winners of each category; the anticipation is in the air already!

Call for entries will be open until July. If you know of any talented filmmakers (or maybe you’re one yourself), encourage them to submit their films on the Jozi Film Festival page on FilmFreeway.

Entries will be judged in the following categories:

  • Best South African Feature Film
  • Best International Feature Film
  • Best South African Documentary (long)
  • Best International Documentary (long)
  • Best South African Documentary (short)
  • Best International Documentary (short)
  • Best South African Short Fiction
  • Best International Short Fiction
  • Best South African Student Film
  • Best Director

Remember, heart would simply be “he” without “art”. Art is what moves the world forward, along with passion for people. We welcome anyone and everyone to attend this quality, multi-genre film festival in support of filmmakers around the world. We doubled the number of bums on seats last year and we are sure to do this again this year!

We love Jozi. We love film. Here’s to the Jozi Film Festival 2019.
