Educational excellence in KZN strengthened

Durban Girls’ College (DGC) today announced the appointment of their new Executive Head. Having worked with the DGC board under the leadership of Karen Jones and Zoleka Skweyiya for the past few months, CN&CO is extremely proud to have played a small role in assisting this leading school to find their new leader.

From our first meeting and clearly experiencing shared values, we knew that we wanted to work with and for DGC as they embarked on this important search. Says Carel:

“Established in 1877, Durban Girls’ College is a world-class South African school. Karen and the board of governors wanted a leader who would build on this tradition but, importantly, also ensure ongoing relevance and excellence, the achievement of diversity and transformation and remain a beacon of hope in our country.”

With over 80 quality applicants both locally and internationally, there were a number of strong educational leaders to choose from. Announcing Heidi Rea as the person who will lead DGC from January 2022, Jones said:

“It is the greatest task that faces a Board and its Chairman to select a chief executive. The role of Executive Head is one that is more complex than any other due to the multiple stakeholders being led and the challenging expectations of each, in a world that has entered a period of accelerated change.

CN&CO educational recruitment is led by Michele Katz (who has over two decades of recruitement experience)and Janet Fox van der Poel (who is a well know educationalist, recently having stepped down from her role at The Ridge after 27 years). Says Carel:

“Assisting Michele and Janet (a former teacher of mine!) and adding some of what I have learnt from my time as Chairman of St Stithians College to the process, has been a wonderful privilege. Teachers – and educational leaders – have a vital role to play in our increasingly complex world.

“Ensuring our children develop their full potential and make meaningful contributions to society, is essential. Now in its 145th year of educating young women, I am most excited by the new phase this appointment heralds for DGC.”

CN&CO recruits for a select group of partners at executive level. Specialising in finance and education, we donate a percentage of the fee to educational charities. Like much of what we do at CN&CO, we pride ourselves on relationships and going above and beyond in working with our partners to achive their goals.
