Later this year the Finance Indaba Africa will be hosted at the Sandton Convention Centre. Described as “an event that will have its own events”, the Indaba will host roughly 5000 visitors from October 13-14. It is the biggest annual conference for all things finance, not to mention the highly coveted African FinTech Awards which kicked off yesterday at FinTech Africa’s Financial Inclusion Event.

Among the attendees were team members from SA’s #1 Stockbroker Purple Group, Entelect and CN&CO, all gathered to hear the latest developments in the fintech space, specifically on the continent. The event consisted of several pitches by aspiring “fintech” companies as well as a panel of judges questioning the presenters on their companies and products. The judges then became the judged as they formed a panel and discussed views and questions presented by those in attendance. As pointed out by Mark Beets from Entelect, “transparency seems to be *the* go-to approach for successful startups” making sure not to reveal “their secret sauce”.

The voting for the FinTech awards opened at the start of the event and will run until the Indaba in October. Companies now have under four months to climb their way up the rank ladder and it is no surprise to CN&CO that EasyEquities is already sitting in 3rd place. The initiative of Charles Savage at Purple Group, brought to life by the awesome Entelect engineers, the platform is making waves in opening investing to everyone. If you haven’t seen it yet, don’t delay and make sure you vote for your favourite FinTech company.
