CN&CO Talks

CN&CO Talks – Ben Kodisang

CN&CO Talks is a conversational platform where we chat to interesting and inspirational people. Allowing them to share their story, lessons, insights and experiences with a broader audience. It’s a platform to promote collaboration and conversations, in an effort to make the world better through allowing people to learn from others.

The concept expands off the Company We Keep series on our blog.

The Company We Keep is a column on the CN&CO blog that profiles some of the most interesting people in our networks. Here we share the details of the lives of people we know, showcasing the extraordinary diversity of our society and proving that people truly are at the heart of everything we do.

One of our first guests, who generously gave us some of his time in Ben Kodisang.

Ben is the Founder and CEO of ALT Capital Partners. He is a phenomenal person with vast experience in property investments and business, having worked at Old Mutual, Stanlib, and Sanlam. We chatted to him about his journey so far and what excites him about the future in Africa.

At the bottom of his email signature, Ben has the quote “Live your Truth”. As you will see from his insights in this conversation, this is one of the things that he holds very closely in everything that he does.

Here’s a summary of the questions that we used to guide the conversation.

  • What excites you about Africa? (feel free to interpret this in a multitude of way – it can be on the business, people, cultural, or experience front)
  • What is one of the most valuable lessons someone taught you at a young age?
  • Can you describe the best investment you have made so far in your life journey? (this could be skills, time, money, experience, travel, etc).
  • Staying with investments – what are alternative investments and what does the landscape look like in South Africa?
  • What is the most useful item that you have purchased during the recent lockdown due to the global pandemic?
  • Learning from failure is difficult and far easier said than done – do you have any tips on how to turn your failures into success and learn from challenges?
  • What is the book (or books) that have gifted to people most frequently over the last 12 months?
  • What advice do you have for varsity students and young graduates who are about to navigate the world over the next 12 months?
  • Where is the world going and what do you think we need to change as we rebuild?
