CN&CO at Starlight Classics with RMB

A night surrounded by stars, under the stars, with stars.

Carel said it was the Starlight Classic rehearsal night and not to expect perfection, but it took my breath away. This is truly a world class event and it was an honour to witness the attention to detail that each artist and the event organisers brought to the stage.

Starlight Classics was the brainchild of Carolynne Waterhouse and an amazing team of RMBers more than a decade ago. Over the years there have been numerous legendary acts – under the baton of well-known South African music personality Maestro Richard Cock.

This year, the CN&CO team – represented by Carel and me – were joined by friends and a few of our favourite partners (like Michael Kaufmann and Ricardo Raciti from RiskAfrica) at the Vergelegen Wine Estate. As the sun set, the music started and we enjoyed being surrounded by tall trees and the starlit sky – a perfect setting.
One of my highlights was the Mzansi Youth Choir as they opened up with the national anthem. I couldn’t help but feel goosebumps all over my body with pride. They have so much talent and energy and some serious dance moves. We wish them luck as they head to London in April to perform with eight leading world youth choirs.

Karen Zoid isn’t called the Queen of Rock for nothing! And backed by a full orchestra it didn’t take much to get the crowd to their feet (it was a bit embarrassing that Carel shouted he wants to marry her – but they do share a love of wine, so maybe there’s a chance!)

My other highlight was the Handspring Puppet Company, well-known RMB partners of Warhorse fame. The elephant puppets brought tears to many eyes and filled us all with hope for the future as they emerged through the trees and then gave birth to a baby. Only in Africa! #SayAfrica.

It was great sharing this night with our friends and clients. Connecting people and businesses is what we do at CN&CO and often those connections lead to magic – kind of like watching our guest Haley from EasyEquities Born2Run Cape Town and Hayley Maclellan from RethinkTheBag meet for the first time, open the dance floor and make magic memories. #WatchThisSpace

Thanks again to RMB for letting us gatecrash the rehearsal. We loved it!

Blake brings a lot of energy, passion and heart into everything he does. He is extremely passionate about our country, it’s people and the environment. He is based in Cape Town and is happiest when he is running around exploring the beauty of the mountains.
