Christmas in July in Dullstroom

Christmas in July, Mrs Simpson’s style

Mrs Simpson’s has been serving the Dullstroom community and visitors to Dullstroom since 2005. An annual tradition that a few of the CN&CO team have had for a number of years is the Christmas in July celebration with our friends Bryan and Stephen, who own Mrs Simpson’s.

Mrs Simpson’s restaurant in Dullstroom will be open on 4 July 2020 for a special Christmas in July dinner to raise funds for the Dullstroom Epilepsy Centre.

Stephen and Bryan of Mrs Simpson’s are very involved in the epilepsy centre, providing help in the form of fundraising and food parcels, as well as visiting the centre’s 80 permanent residents on a regular basis.

The centre is a government facility that relies on disability grants for its survival. This income – when it comes in – is enough to cover the running of the centre, but there is still so much more that’s needed, says Stephen.

“We’re fortunate to have regular donors for items such as toilet paper, soap, washing powder and detergents, as well as a group of people in the village called Helping Hands who assist with donations for non-medicinal medical supplies, meat and fresh produce. But there are always shortfalls, and any additional funding is welcome.

“Individuals and companies (like CN&CO) contribute to our ‘Epilepsy Friends’ account, which helps us to buy toiletries and treats for residents – like birthday presents and special meals and gifts at Christmas, Easter, etc. We are also always on the lookout for educational toys, wheelchairs and other mobility aids, furniture… basically anything that can add to the quality of life of the residents.”

The Christmas in July fundraiser will help to supplement the centre’s income. Plus it promises great fun and sumptuous eating, as always at Mrs Simpson’s.

There will be a R100 cover charge for each patron and Bryan and Stephen ask that you bring a small “Secret Santa” gift with a maximum value of R100. The proceeds from the cover charge will go to the epilepsy centre, while the Secret Santa gifts will be shared among the guests.

Please note that all food and drinks consumed will be for your own account.

Feel free to dress in your favourite Christmas outfit.

Ho ho ho! See you at Mrs Simpson’s!
