Checking in with young talent Mlu as he plans to reach new heights

Participating in sport is a common thread in Lombard Partnerships. A month ago we published a blog about Mlungisi Mazibuko (or Mlu as he prefers to be known), an avid young, talented mountain biker who received a new bike earlier this year co-sponsored by Lombard Partnerships and Sponsorshop, two of CN&CO’s partners and friends.

We checked in with Mlu to see what his plans are for the remainder of the year as well as what he has planned this far for 2019:
“In the past 2 weeks I have been busy with exams and for the next 2 weeks also, but along this time I have managed to sneak in a couple of training rides. I have just over 3 weeks before my race in December which is held on the 3rd. There has been some improvement with my cycling and my coach Guy Watkins has helped me improve my fitness. I have not just been preparing for the Sharks Trail MTB event,”
For those of you that don’t know, the Sharks Trail Adventure is all about hitting the trails of the beautiful Summerveld Estate and surrounds. The event this year will take place on the 2nd December. Mlu will be taking part in the 40km ride which is described by the Sharks Trail Adventure team as, “A challenging but stunning route designed by Impi Sport that has a good mix of tough climbs and brilliant single track sections that offer riders a wonderful riding experience in the Summerveld area. Throw in a few river crossings, the odd bridge and a few switchbacks, you have a fast flowing course that will keep you entertained from start to finish.”
After that, Mlu has also been training for SA Champs for Track also held on the 17 of December this year in Cape Town, but he will only be able to confirm whether he will be partaking later this month.
“For 2019 I haven’t set up any goals yet as I will be focusing on my training rather then my racing in order to improve my strength,” said Mlu.
With a whole bunch of great plans set for the next few months and an open book for next year, this young rider is without a doubt someone we will continue to keep our eyes on.
If you’re an avid mountain biker in Durban or competing in the Sharks Trail Adventure in Cape Town, keep an eye out for young Mlu in his Lombard Partnerships and Sponsorshop kit.
