Celebrating Women on Women’s Day

Today South Africa celebrates Women Day. August is also the month in which we celebrate women and their phenomenal power that they bring to the world.

Our National Women’s Day is a public holiday that is celebrated annually on 9 August. It commemorates the 1956 march, were approximately 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings in Pretoria to petition against the country’s pass laws.

Here are two powerful social media campaigns that really stood out for me.

The first is from our partner, RMB. They recognise and celebrate the positive impact that women make in business and society. This Women’s Month, they encourage you to join them in acknowledging a woman who inspires you. You know she’s a role model, does she? #LetHerKnow #WomensMonth #WomensDay2019

The second is a message that Gillette launched. Gogo Nozizwe raised her grandson, Akhona, and his siblings in Nyanga in the Western Cape. To honour her and all the women raising the next generation of South African men, they launched this film in celebration of Women’s Day.

As we celebrate and acknowledge women today during our National Women’s Day, let’s be more conscious of the role women play in our daily lives. We can learn a lot from everyone around us and by working together we can make the world a better place.
