Cartesian Talks 8 – talking small cap stocks with Alaris Holdings

Cartesian Talks has become a firm fixture on the CN&CO Events calendar. The eighth iteration of the series took place recently, expertly hosted – as always – by Cartesian Capital MD Anthea Gardner.

Anthea’s guest on Cartesian Talks 8 was Juergen Dresel, CEO of radio-frequency technology holding company Alaris Holdings. Alaris was listed on the AltX (small cap board) of the JSE in 2008. It has a market capitalisation of R236 million and a PE ratio of 8. The share has persistently outperformed the JSE Small Cap Index and the JSE All Share Index since 2015.

Among other things, Anthea and Juergen discussed anechoic chambers, bombs, Alaris’s financial performance over the past financial year, past and future acquisitions, offshore activity and currency hedging, physics, technology trends, product development, the value of small cap investing, value-added reselling and why it’s great to be in South Africa.

There was also some discussion around the JSE AltX – or alternative exchange – which hosts small to medium-sized companies that are not quite ready to list on the main board of the exchange.
