Unconscious bias and how we can effect change through mentorship

When I see a Muslim woman in hijab walk past me in the street, or sit next to me on the train, my own personal bias thinks “shame, what persecution does she face at home”? I think to myself “does she feel hot in that”?  I think “is she abused by the men around her”? I certainly don’t think is she an electrical engineer? Does she do yoga at sunrise? Was she the captain of the hockey team at school? Could she be the head of an advertising agency?

I wish someone had told me to write it down

You never know what and when your time will come. I could die next week, and what I have I left my children to remember me by? How will they know what is in my heart and in my hopes and dreams for them?

The Ink Link – At what age do tattoos become a thing?

It made me think, when does the (now diminishing) taboo about having tattoos become a thing? I wonder when societal norms and rules imprint themselves on us in our development as human beings.

Be a little kinder

Jane and Paul were charismatic, honest, vulnerable and heartwarming hosts. As Jane so often does on radio, she regaled many personal stories of her own struggle against self-criticism and helped us all to see the positive effect that being kinder to yourself has on your whole life and those around you

Women’s Day – Shwomen’s Day!

It reminds me that as women, our struggle has been a global one, one that doesn’t see the borders of countries or the separation of land by the sea.

I wish someone had told me… The nights are long but the years are so short.

This video is for all parents out there. Remember. The nights may be so very long sometimes, but the years are most certainly so very short. Cherish even the sleep deprivation if you possibly can. Like so many things and situations in life, its how we choose to view it that makes it what it is.
