Aletta Alberts

“Aletta Alberts as ‘n kunswerk”

The Aletta Alberts Young Artist Fund is close to the hearts of many at CN&CO. With numerous donations from Aletta’s friends and colleagues including the Media24 team, the fund has already sent Yolanda Mazwana to Italy on a short residency. Yolanda is a young artist whom Aletta was very interested in both as a collector and a mentor. Her work deals with issues of the physical body, mental health and identity.

Over the past three years Yolanda’s career has taken root and grown significantly through residencies at the Nirox Foundation and The Fourth in Cape Town and with this international exposure, the Fund is contributing to her ongoing growth.

To celebrate Aletta’s art, her sister Maretha du Plessis arranged an exhibition with the Kalashnikovv Gallery in which Aletta was an investor. Thank you to Izelle Venter and the team at Media24 TV for the clip.

Says Carel Nolte – one of the fund contributors: “The fund aims to send at least one young talent overseas each year. Initial thinking is that we would like to try and make these happen annually in July – Aletta’s birth month and in acknowledgement of her venture with friends called “In July.” 2023 will see us focus on someone in the fashion art world. As everyone who knew Aletta will agree – she WAS fashion!”
