AIO 2019: Insurance Penetration in Africa

The 46th African Insurance Organisation Conference and General Assembly kicked off in style at Emperors Palace in Johannesburg, with over 900 delegates from 60 countries in attendance. We are extremely proud to be hosting the event alongside our partner, the Insurance Institute of South Africa (IISA).

Under this year’s theme – Insurance Penetration in Africa: Insuring the Uninsured – the conference focuses on insurance distribution and inclusivity across the continent. Other topical issues under discussion include micro-insurance and the effects of climatic events (such as floods, droughts and wildfires) on the industry and the economy in general.

Follow our social media handles (Instagram, Facebook and Twitter) for highlights of the day’s events, photographs and our key take-outs from a few of the presentations. Also keep an eye out for media coverage provided by Cover Publications. Thanks to RFIB Africa for their media sponsorship, making it possible for Tony van Niekerk and his team to provide broad coverage of the event.

Here are some of the photographs from Monday’s session.

We are also producing a number of video clips for the conference, speaking to a few of the key individuals who are in attendance. Here two of the latest ones:

There are incredible long-term opportunities to improve insurance penetration across Africa. In this video, Quinten Matthew of Santam Insurance unpacks this and other interesting topics from the African Insurance Organisation conference #AIO2019.

Africa is an important region in the Lloyd’s of London business model. The company’s Head of Africa, Amit Khilosia, explains why in this video, which was filmed at the African Insurance Organisation’s 2019 conference in Johannesburg. #AIO2019
